After a series of 11-to-13-hour days, I worked "only" 8 1/2 hours today, and we were able to get away early enough to drive over to Fallon and Big R (alas, the opening of the Fernley Big R is still at least two months away — it has been "two months away" now for almost a year, for reasons apparently having to do with arguments with Lyon County over something) to buy nine concrete paving slabs. There's a dirt area between the sidewalk and the wood box over which we walk a lot, and Lisa wants to dig it out and lay in the paving blocks to (in effect) extend the sidewalk. If these work out, we'll go back and buy more blocks. That way, we can get wood from the box without having to walk in the dirt.

One of the reasons likes this house is that we have sidewalks on the property. No more walking in the dirt and mud. That literally cost Lisa a toenail while she was in Oregon, from the fungal infection she got in one of her big toes.

On the way home, we stopped at the Black Bear Diner for dinner. We used to go to Long John Silver's in Fallon when we made trips to Big R, but the combination LJS/KFC in Fallon is now only a KFC, the fish part of the franchise having been dropped.

Huh, I never knew Long John Silver's and KFC were part of the same conglomerate. (According to various semi-reliable parts of the Internet, they parted ways in 2011.) 'Round these parts, all the LJSes are combined with Taco Bells.

That's presumably why the one in Fallon dropped the LJS; the contract ran out, and because the two companies aren't conjoined anymore, couldn't be renewed, so the franchisee stuck with chicken over fish.
