Leak

The travel trailer has sprung a leak in one of the two drain tanks. When Lisa first noticed it, she opened the drain valves to reduce the load on the system. A day later, even after the tanks drained, putting any water down the bathroom sink (nothing else) causes a small leak under the trailer. This could be very tricky to fix. To reduce mess, we got a bucket, lined it with a heavy plastic bag, and put a layer of sorbent (we got a bag of the oil-cleanup stuff from Lowe's) in the bag to catch the small amount of drippage. We've called a mobile RV repair guy (suggested by the local tow company from who we buy our propane) who will be here tomorrow morning to try and diagnose the problem. Lisa thinks that a pipe may have come lose from the bathroom sink drain into the holding tank. The problem is that there's no simple way to get at that connection, given how tight everything is constructed in a travel trailer.

If we have to haul the trailer to a shop for heavy repairs (which replacing a holding tank might be), it would be very difficult, given that we're living out of the trailer and depending upon it for our hot water and cooking.

Could Lisa possibly join you in California during some work period? Would that be long enough to have the trailer fixed, while you're both away? (You have to pay for the hotel anyway, so expenses shouldn't be all that much higher.) I'm sure you've contemplated this. But I'm also pretty sure there's a reason she hasn't visited there much before!

There are (besides the fact that she really likes it here) reasons, and they also make the haul-the-trailer-to-Reno solution more difficult. The biggest one is that in the winter, if she doesn't keep the main house heated by building a fire at least once every other day, we're worried about the pipes freezing. (This can be dealt with by draining lines, but that's a hassle. In any event, we speculate that a shop, if properly scheduled, would only need it for two or three days. But Lisa also would want to be nearby in case any quick response to the shop is needed, too.

She may come down with me this spring for a week sometime.

Off topic: I assume 4014 isn't routed anywhere near you?

Nope, not a bit. I think it will be routed over the former LA & Salt Lake route through Las Vegas, which means the far end of the state from us. There's no reason at all for it to come over the former Overland Route in front of it. It would be cool if it did, though.
