As I mentioned after we checked in last night, our hotel room was possibly the strangest in which I've ever stayed. Here's the "living room":

Boardroom Bedroom

It's a full-size boardroom table. This room would be big enough for an SFSFC Board of Directors meeting if you added some chairs. There is a standard-sized bedroom beyond this room, and an ordinary bathroom attached. There's also a microwave/refrigerator/sink in this over-sized parlor.

A significant fault: to get from the bedroom to the bathroom, you have to go through this boardroom parlor with its hardwood floor. This is not fun in bare feet. The room would have worked much better if the bathroom attached directly to the bedroom, with a half-bath (toilet/sink) near the front door entrance to the parlor.

There being limited space in the bedroom, we stacked our luggage on the boardroom table. (I thought of leaving it there for the photo but decided to make things look nicer.) We actually don't like the room that much and asked for a standard room, but apparently this was the very last room they had and the only reason they didn't "bounce" my reservation to another hotel was due to my platinum status.

With a better configuration, this would have been a wonderful room if I were chairing a convention here.

Our train to Detroit leaves at 2:50 and we have a 2 PM check-out. We're about to pop out for breakfast, then come back to the hotel and get our luggage and roll back to Union Station, after having had 7-8 hours of sleep after all.

Yes that would be useful room for a con chair - at least without the misallocated bathroom.

I had a similar arrangement when I chaired Conjecture 2011. The second floor of the hotel was mix of function space and rooms. Knowing that someone had to take the room, I got the room that lies between the elevator bank and one of the board rooms - and has a connecting door into the board room.

On Friday, until programming got really going and the room was needed (we had 3 board rooms and only two other rooms that could hold panels) we had the connecting door open - and some KFC in the room for the people who were working on Friday. (This was the convention that was impacted by a county+ wide blackout that lasted for about 12 hours starting about 3:00 on Thursday afternoon - so things were a bit late and harried on setup Friday).

I've been in both Embassy Suites and Doubletree Suites like that, although I don't remember exactly where the bathroom was located.

It reminds me of the hot tub room in the old Jantzen Beach Red Lion/Doubletree/whatever. It had a fine hot tub, but the entry opened into the hot tub space rather than the bedroom. It always seemed awkward.
