Almost Ready to Roll

We packed most of the Match Game gear and much of our traveling kit into the Astro last night when it wasn't so hot. Lisa is very good at packing the vehicles. Things that are heat-sensitive or very obviously valuable we'll put in just before we go. We're mostly ready to go except for our "hand baggage" and the fact that I'm still at work for a while. When I'm released (I hope no later than 2 PM), we'll finish packing and hit the road for Alturas, the first leg of our trip up to Portland and Westercon.
At least two banker's boxes are MGSF prizes, some of which are now sufficiently old that every contestant is going to get one, win or lose, until they're gone. This will (we hope) make the return trip lighter.
This time we remembered the MGSF banners. We've forgotten them in the past, which is annoying. And now we have nice permanent vinyl banners, thanks to Sasquan who made them for us last year.
Looking at how difficult it was to fit everything into the minivan, Lisa said she's relieved we decided to not try and carry the show to Kansas City in August.

Date: 2016-06-29 12:52 am (UTC)Actually, you can probably do better than my current few paragraphs on the business meeting too. The teaser I wrote in advance is okay but could be elaborated:
Every Westercon has a business meeting; we have to, it's in the constitution and everything. At WC69 it will be held at 11am on Saturday in the Ross Island room.
If you'd like a quick orientation on how this works you can watch a short video titled Business Meeting Basics by Kevin Standlee, filmed at Westercon 68:

Date: 2016-06-29 02:16 am (UTC)Get Ready to Match the Stars!
If you know how to fill in the ___, you can win prizes worth up to $100 in Match Game SF, the SF/F-themed version of the classic 1970s game show (recently revived by CBS) as recreated at many past Westercons , Worldcons, and other conventions throughout the Western US. Contestants will be picked randomly from the audience to match wits with our panel. Prizes include book collections, gift certificates to the Dealers' Room, and a membership to next year's Westercon. All contestants, win or lose, receive Lovely Parting Gifts. There will be two shows of Match Game SF: Friday night is the PG-13 version, while Sunday night is mature audiences only as the panelists aren't going to hold anything back. Both Friday and Sunday nights the fun starts at 9 PM in the Jefferson/Adams Room.

Date: 2016-06-29 02:19 am (UTC)Westercon is governed by a set of bylaws (published in the Program Book), and every member of Westercon may attend the Business Meeting where changes to the Westercon Bylaws are proposed, debated, and voted upon. This year's Business Meeting is at 11 AM Sunday in the Ross Island Room. Currently, the only scheduled business is the official announcement of the results of the Westercon 71 Site Selection; however, any two members can propose new business, so there is always the possibility of a surprise.
