Lizard Manor
Aug. 30th, 2016 04:52 pmYesterday morning, while taking a load of laundry upstairs to dry, I was startled by a skittering noise that at first I thought was a mouse.

It was one of the common sagebrush lizards that we call "George." We'd rather not have lizards in the house, but they don't bother me as much as mice. (Lizards do not eat books, for example.) However, before I could do anything to catch him, he skittered away back behind some shelves. I warned Lisa about George and left it at that.
This morning, Lisa was startled to find George the Lizard in the kitchen downstairs, but once again he skittered away before we could do anything about it. Later in the morning, I heard scratching sounds from a paper bag full of dry trash sitting in the kitchen. George had somehow got into the bag and was struggling to get out. I closed off the top of the bag and carried it outside, much to George's distress as he ran about trying to escape.

I told Lisa what had happened, and she came out with me to the vacant lot next door, where I put the bag on its side and opened it up. Out popped George, who then sat there for a while. We left him be and I went back to work.
We actually like having these lizards about, because they eat bugs. We just would rather not have them inside the house if possible.

Date: 2016-08-31 02:36 pm (UTC)We do have a problem with mice in the attic which we have to have Truly Nolen take care of. (They get in through some damage in the garage door which we need to fix).
We did have a young bull snake get into the house shortly after moving in, which unfortunately did a bit too good of an impression of a rattlesnake (as they do) and freaked Tara out enough that she mortally wounded it attempting to protect the cats.

Date: 2016-09-02 02:32 am (UTC)When I started reafing this, I was picturing something the geckos we had in our hotel in Jamaica. THAT thing in your house would have scared my wife and daughter all the way from your house back to the East Coast. Glad to hear you returned it to the wild.
