It seems that the revised terms of service for LiveJournal do not technically apply to Permanent and Paid accounts. I have the former, and [livejournal.com profile] travelswithkuma has the latter. Nevertheless, it may be that The Time Has Finally Come. I guess I can't say that I didn't get my money's worth with the Permanent account. As I recall, it amounted to seven years of at-that-time annual cost, and I've been posting since August 27, 2005.

After family discussion, we're migrating Kuma's LJ over to DreamWidth first. It's much smaller than mine, so we're using it to get the hang of how to do the migration and setup. His account will be https://travelswithkuma.dreamwidth.org/. The import is currently queued. There's no surprise that there continues to be a long queue of users migrating material into DW from LJ.

I do not currently intend to delete my LiveJournal account. As a permanent member, I don't see why I should. Even if by some chance I manage to do something to run afoul of Russian law, I don't anticipate ever visiting Russia (despite the idea of taking the Trans-Siberian Railroad being intriguing), so I'm not sure how anything could happen other than my journal being deleted.

Thanks for the info about the Permanent accounts since I have one too.

Looks like its mainly cross posters, feeds and grrm still here.

I am currently looking for a round tuit, which I will need to get a DreamWidth account. *sigh*

Update: The DW account now exists, though there's nothing much in it.

Just wondering... where'd you hear/read that? (And of course, I'm having to go from the 'unofficial' English version...)

13.4 Paid Services are not subject of this Agreement. The Administration shall not be liable for Paid Services. All Paid Services’ related questions shall be address to Live Journal Inc.

This seems to be describing what you can buy with LJ Tokens, like custom userheads, and extra userpics.

"Paid Accounts" are now the "Professional package of service" (and that is how my account is described throughout my history now...)
(dunno about the Permanent account level. not seeing any reference to it in the ToS... What does your account list as the expiration date?)

My account expiration date is "Never." LiveJournal in its early days sold Permanent memberships for a multiple of the annual rate and for a limited time. I stumped up the money the final time that they put them on sale.

yah, knew they offered it. Didn't know how it was described in account, and if that description had changed since the new ToS. (that last part had me the most curious, with the change in how the paid account description...)

I'm leaving my old one up, and am echoing posts, but not allowing new comments on the LJ side - as you've probably seen. But! People can use their LJ accounts to comment on my Dreamwidth journal, so really, it's maybe one extra click. Bam. (I am solarbird there also, of course.)

The good news is that Dreamwidth is fuckin' hoppin' at the moment, I mean, it's not like 2004 LJ? But it's a lot closer to that than 2016 LJ. And more than DW+LJ has had combined for years. I am daring to use the phrase "critical mass."

So now that you're joining the Dreamwidth Zerg Rush, here's some possibly useful data:

1) As you've seen, and fired up, you can import your old LJ there via built-in functionality, and it works, and brings in comments if you want.

2) Here's a 'get started on Dreamwidth' post that's good:

https://bisharp.dreamwidth.org/233213.html

And 3) this page: https://dreamwidth.org/latest

...is a sitewide post containing TRENDING TAGS. And also most recent public posts. It should be good for finding what's currently topical.

It is also very interesting how many of the trending tags are in Russian. oh ho ho.

Sad to hear about LJ, but I don't really use it much any more. I do have a Dreamwidth account, shall play with it soon.

I'm on Dreamwidth. I was an early adaptor so I got Auntie_M with no 42 or any other mash up.
I barely do anything on either LJ or DW. I am paid on lowest level here at LJ. I believe everything was moved to DW when I started. Better go check and neaten up over there. Also see what they've done to the place. I've pretty much moved to FB.

Let me know when you're there. I forgot I had a DW account so I can add you. I'm not going to bother to import my old stuff - I don't care.
