Time Change Blues

It's strange how the DST time change sometimes hammers me. I've traveled long distances and shifted 8 or more time zones and not had the same issue that this one hour change sometimes gets to me. I've been woozy much of this morning. It will pass eventually, of course.

I continue to think that we should stop shifting back and forth. Realistically (because of how closely Nevada's economy is tied to our western neighbor's, much as many Nevadans would like to pretend otherwise), whatever California decides to do, Nevada will be all but required to do. Whether that means year-round standard time, like Arizona, or year-round DST, or continuing to have most of the year under DST as we do now, remains to be seen.

I'm just glad that today I don't need to go any farther than the grocery store.

I've read that states are allowed to opt out of DST but by legislative omission there's not an option to switch to DST year-round. Presumably this would be straightforward to fix at the national level, but in the near future any administration attempting to fix things will have many items higher in their priority queue.

Yeah, that's what I've heard as well. Annoying, as I think in some places year-around DST would be better than Standard Time. But either is better than what we have now.

I live at 97.5 W, which should be the western boundary of Central Time. As a result, during DST, I'm all of 90 minutes off solar time. Since zone time was first introduced because of the railroads, almost all of Texas (which has its rail centre here in Fort Worth) is also on Central Time, & is even worse off in that respect.

I reckon that if Texas had stayed independent, it might have opted for the "Indian" solution of putting the country on a half-hour zone. (As you may know, India straddles a nominal time zone boundary, so rather than have multiple zones, they split the difference and the whole country is on a half-hour zone.

Oh, bother. Now I'm going to have to run for political office with that as my platform.
