Lisa cooked up some quail for us for Dinner (and Lunch).

No, not those quail.

Quail: It's What's for Lunch (and Dinner)

We bought these on our most recent grocery shopping trip to Raley's.

Quail: It's What's for Lunch (and Dinner)

I had one of these for lunch today and probably will have one for dinner tonight with one for lunch tomorrow.

The quail who come by our yard eating the birdseed and stale bread I leave out for them haven't been here the past few days. Maybe they saw what we were bringing home in our groceries. They need not worry, though. I don't have a hunting license; I don't know when quail-hunting season is; and discharging firearms within the city limits of Fernley is illegal anyway. Unlike the so-called "Second Amendment absolutists," I don't consider any of these things infringement of my constitutional rights.

Heh. We don’t have wild quail that I’ve seen. But we get dozens of wild turkeys, some partridge, bambis, squirrels, woodchucks, doves...in a pinch, we have emergency rations. No hunting licenses, but bows....in case of the true Zombie Apocalypse. (We have had lots of turkeys since we moved here...and I swear they hide during Thanksgiving week...)

Ow, ow, ow! My bow (compound...so much lighter pull than a recurve of the same power) does not have anything like that sort of kick. It’s pretty, though.

I’ve only once shot a shotgun. Mom and Dad taught us to shoot rifles (.22s) and hand guns (Mom’s .25 derringer). But the one where I hurt myself was firing a .44 at a range with a friend who was a cop...and nearly dislocated my thumb and shoulder. Boy, do you have my sympathy!

The big advantage with the bow for shooting small birds is if you line them up just right, you can get 3 with one arrow. If the arrows are titanium, like mine, you could probably use them as a skewer. :-) Or not...
