Drive Drive Drive
Oct. 23rd, 2011 08:55 pmIt really was a pleasant day to be driving through the Sierras: nice weather, good views, etc. But it's still tiring to make that 300 mile drive from Fernley. Including a stop at Fry's in Sacramento — where they, like Roseville's store, are out of the large plastic office floor-mat carpet protectors — and for dinner in Tracy, it was about 7 1/2 hours on the road today.
While at Fry's, I bought a brand new 320GB hard drive, and I'm about to clone the nearly-as-shipped copy of the system that came with my laptop, then put that nearly-as-shipped copy back in the fire safe. I also plan to do the clone using the CD-ROM-based copy of the cloning software that I made long ago. I'm trying to think of anything I can that will try and keep anything that's bugging this computer that might be software based from getting on to the drive. Of course, I still have to download about a million updates after that, and then install a whole bunch of software. At least I have all of the installers. I hope.
