Let There Be Light

The family room at the south end of Fernley House is not that well lit, and Lisa wanted to do something about it. She had salvaged much of the surface conduit she had installed in the old house in Mehama (which would have been ripped out by her siblings) and she's comfortable working with it. We did have to go buy more wire, as she couldn't find the coil she'd previously purchased. I suggested we buy the slightly heavier 12-gauge wire instead of the ordinary 14-gauge, and Lisa agreed. Two nights ago, Lisa installed the new wiring.

Eventually, the entire circuit was complete, the outlets worked, and the new light makes the family room much brighter. In particular, you can now see the books on the bookshelf at night, which is important to us.

End of the Rainbow

I try to go out for a short walk around the block each morning here at Fernley House. (This is partially because my computers take forever to boot up and I hate waiting around for them, and partially because I need the exercise.) There was light rain falling this morning, and the rising sun peeked through the clouds on the eastern horizon for about five minutes forming another rainbow over Fernley, but this one's destination was particularly special to me.

I hope this picture is a sign of better days ahead for us.

Ongoing Destruction

I continue to periodically take pictures of the ongoing work to clear away the condemned old lumber yard down the street from our house. When we were buying propane yesterday, the guy there (who has lived here all his life) told us that the building was originally a gasoline distribution plant — apparently fuel was tanked in by rail to that building and then distributed from there — before later becoming a lumber yard and eventually falling into disrepair. We told him about what the fire chief found and why the building is being demolished.
