kevin_standlee: (Reno)
Actually 2 AM, but who's counting?

For a lot of our "staple" shopping, we prefer to go to WinCo Foods in Reno, but when we did our previous shopping run, the place looked too crowded for us to feel safe, now that mask mandates are lifted. Yes, we're triple-vaccinated and wear N95 masks, but the overall vaccination rate is so low in Nevada that we still have to assume that most people around us are potential plague carriers who don't thing viruses are real anyway and don't give a darn if other people get sick due to them. So last night, Lisa and I compared our sleep schedules and concluded that if I went to bed as early as possible and got up at Midnight, the start of my "day" would overlap the end of hers, and we could go get our groceries. (WinCo is 24 hours, but none of the other stores at which we go shopping for things we can't get at WinCo are.) So I went to bed at 5 PM and set the alarm for Midnight.

It took me longer to get going than I'd planned, and consequently it was well after 2 AM by the time we got on the road to Reno. There's a winter storm warning up, and chain controls west of here over I-80, and temperatures are below freezing again, but the roads were clear to and from Reno. At the store, there was even one other couple still wearing a face covering, and a few employees. The rest, of course, are all going maskless, and we avoided them as best we could as we bought a lot of groceries. This will, we hope, reduce the number of trips we make to Reno, which is good both for avoiding potential plague carriers and also reducing our gasoline consumption.
