Break Between Storms
Jan. 14th, 2023 08:00 pmOn Thursday, Lisa and I went first to Gold Ranch (Verdi) to buy Mega Millions tickets from their California parking lot extension (we didn't win) and then went grocery shopping in Reno. We continue to try and keep the larder stocked pretty heavily in case we aren't able to get out for an extended period due to the weather. Today, we did almost nothing other than stay home, rest and wait for the next set of storms, which are supposed to arrive this evening. When I see the reports of chain controls over I-80, intermittent closures, and recommendations that people not travel, it makes me very happy that I do not have to travel. There are things I do need to do in California, and some of them are increasing in urgency, but no so much so that I want to take my life in my hands by trying to cross the mountains in this weather. In the meantime, I keep the wood box full and tend to small local bits of maintenance, like getting out a shovel and fixing the area in front of the mailbox, where the mail delivery person has dug up ruts delivering mail while the rain and snow has softened the ground in front of the house.
