So Much for That Idea

Lisa and I continue to plan our trip to Winnipeg for Pemmi-Con. Our outline plan had been to drive to Winnipeg, attend the convention, join several of our friends to take the train from Winnipeg to Churchill and back, and then for Lisa and I to drive home, taking a different route home and (we hoped) staying at the Isaak Walton Inn in Essex, Montana, preferably in their one-of-a-kind converted locomotive. Well, all of the plans (including the trip to Churchill) are still working, except Essex. The Isaak Walton Inn has been sold and the new owners have announced that the hotel will close for major renovations this summer. (The linked article includes a photograph of the locomotive cabin.)

Yes, we might be able in theory to make another trip that would allow us to stay there, but we don't really expect to take any trips that will take us up through northern Montana in the foreseeable future.
