A Rose (Still) Grows in Fernley
May. 31st, 2021 03:58 pmWhen we bought Fernley House, there were two rose bushes living the margin between the RV parking space and the garage. One of the plants was strangled by tree-of-heaven, but the other has barely survived, despite us having cut off much of its sunlight by building the shelter over the travel trailer.

It appears to have responded by trying to grow taller to reach daylight, and Lisa helped it along by putting a post in the ground and tying it to the post.
Lisa also pulls up new tree-of-heaven shoots like those in the lower left in this photo. It appears you can't get rid of that tree, but you can keep cutting it back. It does sometimes seem to grow almost as fast as bamboo.

This is the largest bloom so far this year, but there are others not far behind it.

There seem to be new blooms opening daily at the moment.
Lisa waters the rose bush with the water from making pasta. It seems to suit the plant.
