Lisa started working on the patio this afternoon now that we have what she calculates is the remaining wood we need to make it happen.

Patio Cleanup

Lisa got out the leaf blower and broom and blew out a year's accumulated debris that had blown in here since work stopped last September. The toy car was in here when she pulled out the old rotten boards, and she's decided that it can stay there after she puts in the new decking boards.

Patio Support

She has started fastening together the beams that will bear the weight of the deck boards. Later, before she puts in the deck boards covering this area, she intends to use L-brackets to fasten these beams to the concrete, using the heavy-duty concrete drill we bought when we were building the shelter over the travel trailer.

On Deck

This afternoon, she started screwing down the deck boards in this section of the patio. As you will have seen from the wider photos, the deck area is L shaped, while the rest of the rectangle is a solid block of concrete. We considered, but discarded, the idea of filling in the L with concrete for a variety of logistical reasons, starting with the fact by our calculation it would be more than all of the concrete that we hand-mixed and poured during the driveway-widening and trailer-shelter project.

We're still thinking about what we'll do once the wooden deck is complete. We still have lots of red paint, so painting the entire deck, including the concrete, is one possibility.

My contribution has so far been mostly to stand on boards while Lisa screws them in to make sure they are firmly in place while she attaches them.
