Bringing the Business to You

I spent most of today editing the raw 2023 WSFS Business Meeting video from the multiple files generated in the camera into one file per day of the Business Meeting, uploading them to the YouTube WSFS Business Meeting channel, and arranging them into a 2023 Business Meeting playlist.

There were three WSFS Business Meetings. All business was disposed of by the conclusion of the third meeting, so we did not have to hold and "overtime" session.

The room was under-lit. I tried to compensate in the camera settings and in post-production, but the videos still came out darker than I would have liked.

The meeting was conducted in English and Chinese, with simultaneous translation through headsets. There was no mechanism for combining those translation feeds with this video.

There was CART transcription in both English and Chinese, but it was computer generated and computer translated, which means it was not all that accurate. In some cases, we tried to swing the camera around to pick up the approximate English translation, but we did not managed to do so in all cases, especially when I wasn't operating the camera, which I was unable to do when I was presiding over the meeting as the deputy presiding officer.

These videos are CC-attribution licensed, so if anyone wants to create translations, they are welcomed to give it a try as long as they apply the same CC licensing.

Yep. But worse this time. I needed to be in two places at once, plus at least needing at least one more of me with a computer with a connection to something where I could have live-blogged the meeting. That just wasn't going to happen.

Actually, I'm grateful that the con did not live-stream the meeting, as there are some significant issues with people watching the meeting but not understanding the process and getting all riled up and demanding INSTANT ACTION NOW BECAUSE IF I DON'T GET WHAT I WANT THIS SECOND, IT'S NOT FAAAAAAAAAIR!

Actually. I was commenting on the fact that this is pretty much word for word the post you sent to the SMOFs list today. The content was very reminiscent of previous posts about NASFIC and previous Worldcons, though.

Oh, right, that: Well, it was also what I posted to Facebook, and for the same reason: there were lots of people who wanted to know about it, and the groups overlap each other. And yes, it's essentially the same information every time. It's always new to someone, though.

Yep. Which is also why we need the boiler plate about "Worldcon and Hugo Awards are a service mark of WSFS Inc." at the end of every press release. Not everyone has 20+ years of accumulated fannish know-how!

Not quite. There is no WSFS Inc., although there is a small non-profit corporation that holds title to the IP, and that was only completely sorted out a couple of months ago. The revised notice is now at the bottom of https://www.thehugoawards.org/ and the other WSFS-managed websites:
