No train trip today, although I did take some train-related photos for use with writing about another trip later. Today we went to Carmarthen, where we started with a historic church.

St Peter's Church Carmarthen

This is St. Peter's Church in Carmarthen.

St Peter's Church Carmarthen

It's a nice looking building inside as well as out.

Sir Rhys ap Thomas Tomb

The centerpiece historical part of this church is the tomb of Rhys ap Thomas, who is reputed to be the person who dealt the fatal blow to Richard III at the battle of Bosworth Field, effectively ending the Wars of the Roses and making Henry VII king of England. The churge have a large mirror over the tomb to make it easier to view the effigies on the tomb itself.

As interesting as the church is, that wasn't why we were here. We went by the church because it was the point where participants in a march were forming up.

Kevin at Carmarthen Pride

Today was Carmarthen Pride, and I found myself marching in the crowd. It's the first parade in which I recall participating since I marched as a member of the Yuba Feather Elementary School marching band back when I was in the eighth grade in the Bok Kai Parade.

Carmarthen Pride

Playing lead clarinet while staying in step while rounding corners on the streets of Marysville, California back in 1979 was a lot more difficult than ambling down King Street in Carmarthen with perhaps 100-200 happy people thing morning in Carmarthen.

Besides the march itself, there were various booths and exhibits and vendors in various part of the center of town. I was a very cheerful affair, with happy people of all ages. It was also very colorful, no thanks to me, as I was in my typical all-black outfit save my khaki Jacaru hat and a rainbow lanyard I was loaned to sort of let others know that I wasn't just a random shopper caught in the crowd.

The weather today was just about perfect. No rain, but not too much sun or heat. I'm glad I wore sunscreen, given that I seem to get sunburned in the dark, I'm so sun-sensitive.

Later in the day, I had an excellent lunch at The Warren in Carmarthen. This award winning restaurant comes highly recommended.

We did some various types of shopping, socialized with others who participated in the events, and generally had a good time. It wasn't something I'd done before, but I'm glad that I attended and I was happy to be invited to participate. There are surely much bigger such Pride parades, but Carmarthen is smaller than Fernley, and I know that an event of this size in a town the size of Fernley would be significant. The town and the merchants seemed to out in force supporting this event, and I thought it was fun.
