I am not organizing any baseball expeditions in association with BayCon. I mention this here because I just got a telephone call from someone who was starting to get worried about "the baseball outing before BayCon." This person was actually relieved to hear that the outing wasn't until June 29 (the night before Gnomeward Bound starts).

I guess it's a little difficult to tell BayCon from Gnomeward Bound for some people.

especially when the committee puts in print "Westercon is like BayCon Lite."

Oooh... I've got to see where that happened...

Did you get the green "one page PR" that was inserted into the Baycon PR? Take a gander and compare content....

I'm sure I did, but I didn't read the BayCon PR...

It was on the "green" one...and since they haven't posted the PRs to the website, I can't show you where. Our copies are MIA at the house.

Correction: The PR (not numbered; presumably #1) sez:

"If you're not familiar with what a 'Westercon' is, think 'BayCon,' only smaller and perhaps more intimate."

Which doesn't *say* "BayCon Lite," but certainly implies it. Note that this Westercon PR was an insert in BayCon PR#1

In all fairness to Gnomeward Bound, I don't have much of a complaint about the description of a Westercon used in the mini-PR embedded in the BayCon Progress Report. When promoting Westercon at Norwescon a few years ago, I used a similar description. This is important when you're trying to describe other conventions to people whose only experience is the local con. There seem to be lots of people in the Northwest who go to Norwescon and nothing else. I think there must be hundreds of fans who go to BayCon and nothing else.

In contrast, I described Worldcon to the "I only go to BayCon" people as "sort of like holding two-and-a-half BayCons all at once and stretching over five days instead of four."

HEY! Thank you for reminding me! Since you last brought this up, the policy concerning this has changed. Caltrain is now taking "reservations" for game groups. If you're going to have 20 or more, you should give us a call. :-)

So far, it's not looking good. Not only do I not expect to have the 25 needed for a Giants group sale, but some of the people will be coming from other directions on their own and won't be part of the Caltrain group. But if things change -- which they may if the ballgame notice appears on the Gnomeward Bound website -- I'll let you know. Thanks!

Well, you know, just mentioning it. Probably by the time we're close to the event, they'll have changed the policy again. BTW, do take the train to the game on Wednesday Jun 13. Reservation for 380 *elementary* students, and another 250 on another train. EUGH.

There's a difference?
