Made it home. Flight was no problem, once they decided how to deal with having booked me and another person into seat 23C. After consulting with the gate, a flight attendant said, "There's only about eighty people on this flight; sit anywhere you find a seat." And thus I had three seats in an exit row to myself, and a relatively relaxed flight to Oakland.

Once again, my thanks to Cheryl for rescuing me from the clutches of late-night airport arrival! You'd think that one of these days I'd learn that booking seats on the Last Flight Out is not usually a good idea.

Anyway, it's a work day, even if I am working from home on Monday, so I must go get some sleep.

Don't know if you heard, but the delay was caused by a plane that lost its nose gear on landing at Oakland last night. The crew had seen a warning light, had tower visual check that the gear looked down, then came in for a landing. The warning light was right, it hadn't locked in the down position and it buckled on landing. Took hours to deplane the people and get the plane off the runway. What a mess.
Glad you made it home safely.

Yeah, Cheryl told me about the pancaked plane at OAK, and I mentioned it to the gate agents at PDX. They hadn't heard about that, and said that the specific problem with my flight was that they needed to change a tire on the plane in question earlier in the day, which put it two-plus hours behind its scheduled diagram. It arrived from Sacramento and they (a) turned it very quickly and (b) must have given it authority to burn extra fuel, because the flight seemed shorter than usual.
