Because I'm a little tired of giving the full explanation of my WSFS uniform and because most people don't really want to hear the whole thing, I've written up the long version as a really-back-dated entry in my LJ. It's actually dated to the first day of Interaction, before I started writing regularly in this journal.

I intend to print business cards pointing at that entry. I can then give people the cards and say, "Go look at this web site if you want the long version of what the uniform means."

Actually, I'm a little annoyed at an attitude some people seem to have that all costumes have to be re-creations of some specific TV/movie. I've encountered blank looks from people who don't understand the concept of creating a costume that isn't from a TV show or movie. Show some imagination, people!

I remember having a conversation at a staff meeting with [livejournal.com profile] kproche about that very attitude...he told me it was one of the reasons he stopped going to Legion of Rassilon meetings all those years ago. And I honestly can't blame either of you for being fed up with it.

Kevin,
Just saw this post and was reminded of how a great time I had in Glasgow. One part was you showing up in uniform throughout the con. It so made the continuity of the con theme. I loved it.

Kevin, I totally agree. The Captain's suit made perfect sense to me as I went to both Interaction and LACon4.

As for the costume thing, I was rather surprised by this in LA worldcon. I haven't been to any others, but have been to European conventions. There seems to be a definite difference between what people consider intersting at the Masquerades. At Worldcon it's more reproductions of something known. At European Conventions it can be just about anything, but generally the more flair you give it, the more people will like it. Just plain (really good reproductions) are less impressive, although it can depend a lot on what you do with it - your act as it were.
