This coming August 27, the day I fly to Japan for Worldcon, I will turn 42 years old by the calendar. According to this Real Age Calculator, my "Real Age" is 36 1/2 years old; it predicts that statistically, I'll live until about 80 years old. The bad things (diabetes, overweight) are more than offset by the good ones (never smoke or drink, exercise regularly, extremely low cholesterol, and others, including, interestingly enough, having good friends).

I labeled this "Better Than Expected," but in fact I found myself thinking just recently, "I don't feel like I'm 42 years old. I feel younger than that." Despite having had some real problems keeping my blood sugar in the green zone these past ten days or so, and despite hobbling around on this injured left foot, I'm still feeling pretty good overall.

Depending on when your plane leaves, this means your birthday may be truncated by the International Dateline...

And may you live to be 120.

Vanishing Birthday

Yeah, that happened once before. In 1999 on my way to Aussiecon Three, I left Los Angeles on August 26 and arrived on August 28, so from my point of view, my 34th birthday never happened.

It's not quite so compact this time: The first leg of the trip is an 0620 departure from Portland (yuck), change plane at Sea-Tac to a 0840 flight to Honolulu, change there to an 1505 flight to Tokyo Narita. My "party" such as it is, will consist of hanging around the WorldClub at Honolulu for a couple of hours between flights.

Pretty similar to you. I came out with real age in the mid 30s (about 10 years better than reality) - but that is pretty much how I feel - and an expectancy of 87.

I should make it to nearly 91.

And I'll still be bitching about Game 6 on my death hoverbed.
