The Hugo Awards ceremony is this evening, but it starts two hours earlier than traditional. For me, that's an even earlier start because as an acceptor, I should be there for the pre-ceremony reception that starts at 4:30.

Shortly after the ceremony, I will telephone Cheryl in the UK to let her know the ceremony is over and that the results can be posted on the Hugo Awards web site and SF AwardsWatch. About the only places you'll see the results earlier will be anyone live-blogging them during the ceremony, and possibly Nippon 2007's own site.

You keep making it harder and harder for the hoax newsletter to get the scoop.

I hope tonight is cool for you accepting for a friend. I would love to accept a Hugo for someone in my lifetime. I was wondering When are they going to announce the Site Selection winner? At the Hugos or tomorrow morning at the business meeting?

Although it's likely that people will start unofficially announcing the site selection results sometime this evening Japan time, the official announcement will be shortly after 10 AM Sunday morning here, at the Site Selection Business Meeting. (Balloting for site selection closes at 1800, which happens to be the same time the Hugo Awards ceremony starts.)

This is sort of like when you watch a horse race, you can often see which horse won; however, the results are not official and the tickets not paid until the OFFICIAL light comes up on the board. The Site Selection meeting is that equivalent.

With that official announcement still about 11 hours away (if I do my math right) does anybody have a sense how the voting went? Slam dunk for Kansas City? Narrow victory for Montreal? Surprise upset by Portland?
