kevin_standlee: (Hugo Trophy)

It was a very interesting evening at the Hugo Awards, including a cool "opening act" of Ultraman fighting monsters in live action on stage.

The dramatic part from my point of view went away early, as Chris Garcia did not win in either of the categories in which he was nominated. I have his two Hugo nominee rocket pins, his Hugo Nominee ribbon, and a slightly battered invitation to the Hugo Losers Party to bring home to [livejournal.com profile] johnnyeponymous.

In our universe, Science Fiction Five Yearly won this wonderful Hugo Award trophy for Best Fanzine. But in the other timeline pictured here, Kevin is holding the Best Fanzine trophy wondering how he is going to get it transported back to Chris.

I spent most of the evening after the ceremony at the post-Hugo Party, which was the only comfortable party at the con. The sixth-floor parties are still all fuggy and impossibly hot, while the weather has become very nice here in Yokohama, so the Harbor Suite where the post-Hugo Party was held was quite nice.

I want to write so much more, but I must get to bed soon. I still have one more Business Meeting to chair, and I have to be up in under six hours for it.

Yes, and maybe coolest presenter, as Ultraman presented the Hugo Awards for the two Best Dramatic Presentation categories. I hope someone was taping -- I was not, alas! -- and will upload the videos soon.

*That* rocks. I'm of the age group that, taking one look at the trophy, thought, "Ultraman! How cool is *that*? And he's having a birthday, too!"

I am, alas, still older.

Congratulations on getting through it, and to the Hugo Trumpeting Committee for getting the results up so fast. I remember waiting for weeks getting the results back from foreign Worldcons that I didn't attend ...

Admiring the new Hugos site, I did find to my dismay a whopping collection of errors in attributing the editorship of nominees for the old Best Prozine award. (The errors are also in the Long List on the Nesfa website, which I hadn't seen before.) So I've done my part for WSFS by sending in a whopping list of corrections.

Well, since the new Hugo site drew most of its historical material from that site, that's not surprising. Thanks for sending us the corrections.

I'm pleased that we got the results up so quickly. I was on the phone to Cheryl within a minute or two of the ceremony ending, although it took several more minutes before we could go live, on account of I had to get to somewhere she could hear me talking and I needed to confirm the results to her.

It was nice to wake up this morning and see the Hugo results in detail online. I hope this continues for future cons. It didn't have to be someone doing a page of LJ posts, also.
