I was at the transmission shop shortly after they opened this morning. (I had an early-morning conference call that I had to attend first.) The owner said the problem I reported sounded easy to fix. This afternoon, he called and said I could come pick it up. I walked over and he handed me the keys. When I asked how much I owed him, he said, "Nothing." There was a loose cable preventing the shifter from moving, it was an easy fix, and while it was technically not a warranty repair, I've done enough business with them that he wasn't going to charge me for it.

Edit, 23:30: Since good customer service deserves a plug, note for the record that the shop was Fremont Aamco on Thornton Avenue.

You are lucky. Most places would at least charge a "put it on the lift" fee of $20 or so. Guess it pays to visit the same shop all the time!

Good customer service there ... you'll be back, and next time it may be more expensive, but *he* will get the business if it's in your power to get the vehicle there ... why can't more companies understand that a happy customer is a repeat customer ... and that service like that will get you to recommend him to everyone else you can ... and if I was in the area and needed transmission work done, I'd go *there*.

Yay!

That's a Good Company. If you belong to any of those rating things, give them a thumbs up.
You should at least put their name and address in here. So that those who are nearby can use them.

I am grateful to my dealership for reconnecting the cable that got my windshield wipers working again at no charge, although I wish they hadn't told me fixing my heater will be a $1700 job.
