Struck Out Going for Grand Slam

As many of you probably know from their big ad, Denny's was offering free Grand Slam breakfasts today from 6 am to 2 pm. I thought I might try going over to the one relatively near me in Fremont in the mid-morning, between the breakfast and lunch peaks, and see how long the wait might be.

As I drove by, I saw what I estimated to be at least fifty people lined up out the door. I may like the Grand Slam breakfast, but not enough to wait two hours for one. I kept driving and headed to the office.

Addendum, 13:20: I note that the free breakfast offer applied to every Denny's restaurant except two. I wonder why those two stores were opted out?

I did not do have participate in the promotion. It doesn't fit into my lifestyle change without causing me to have Lettuce for Lunch and dinner.

They were giving away "rain check" coupons for those who bothered to check the estimated wait time but weren't willing to wait. I saw several people get one at the Denny's in Clermont as we were waiting.

Aw, too bad I didn't know about that. Oh, well, nothing to be able to do about it now.

That's one expensive promotion, though.

Pat and I were going to go to get the free breakfast. I walked over to it while she was busy with something else. I stood in line for about ten minutes while waiting for her call. Then just as the manager was coming around taking names (and telling everyone that the wait was about 45 minutes). she called. We decided to skip it and go to the Country Way nearby, since we go there quite a bit. We had a very nice meal and the manager there picked up our check! Very pleasant surprise.
