In regard to the nonsense happening in the comments on this entry, I'd plonk stegoking, but it would give him minor fuel for his paranoid fantasy that the SMOFS are conspiring against him and are actively plotting to keep the works he personally likes only good works off the Hugo Awards ballot.

It was interesting to click through to the Blog Post that started your thread. While there are some inclusions on the list I'm not convinced by, i.e. I tend to agree with Charlie that this is his weakest nomination and shouldn't be there. I have to say that while I bought it in Hard Cover, I enjoyed it a lot and I like Peter Hamilton personally, his stuff isn't good enough to get a nod.

Al Reynolds probably is, but not necessarily for that work. Richard Morgan? The 2005 nominee for the best 1985 cyberpunk novel written in the 21st century??? Come on!

Anyway. If the SMOFs were conspiring against him, he'd seriously never know. They're secret after all.

Indeed, but the thinks he does. The poor lad is convinced that Kevin and I head up a world wide conspiracy devoted to barring ordinary fans from voting in the Hugos. All of Worldcon is ours to command.
