Lisa had an appointment with the TMJ specialist this afternoon in Reno. While I worked on Day Jobbe in the waiting room, the specialist, Dr. Allman, fitted a dental appliance that Lisa is to wear when sleeping (and other times when she doesn't need to eat or talk) that should help force her lower jaw forward and take pressure off of the pinched nerve that appears to be the cause of her tinnitus. There's a different appliance for her to wear at other times, but he won't be able to fit it until her regular dentist is able to fit a permanent crown over the tooth on which she had the root canal.

Reno TMJ being only about three blocks from the Atlantis, we went over there for lunch. The lunch buffet is open until 3 PM (not 2 PM as I originally thought), and so we had just under an hour. While Lisa got in line, I checked my club card, and got a bonus: a 2-for-1 breakfast or lunch buffet coupon. That's good because I wasn't hugely hungry. But lunch was still good, and we did not feel rushed. As we left, we saw people queuing for the 4:30 dinner over an hour in advance, presumably because Gold members of their affinity club get a free buffet on Tuesday.

We walked around the casino for a while to get some exercise, then did a couple of shopping errands. I had a $10 coupon from Cost Plus World Market that was about to expire, and then we stopped by Whole Foods Market to pick up some bread Lisa likes. We had thought of trying to get our larger shopping done, but we were both tired and I still had work to do, so Lisa drove us home and I got back to work this evening.

Lisa and I went into Reno for grocery shopping today, after which we went to John Ascuaga's Nugget in Sparks for the monthly Lightning Loot drawing, for which I'd earned 7 entries this month. This consists of five $1,000 drawings at 7 PM and a $10,000 drawing at 9 PM. Any unclaimed $1k prizes in the 7 PM draw (you have two minutes to show up after your name is called) are redrawn at 9 PM, and in the 9 PM draw they keep redrawing until someone shows up. For the first time ever, none of the $1k winners showed up at 7 PM, so the 9 PM draw was extra big.

After the draw, Lisa and I went to the Oyster Bar. Because it appears that Lisa is developing a dairy allergy of some sort, she can't have the shrimp pan roast. We were standing outside the Oyster Bar looking at the menu and trying to figure out if there was anything she could eat. To our surprise, William, our "regular" bread server, came out and greeted us and asked if we'd be having dinner tonight. We explained the issue with Lisa needing to avoid dairy products while we explore what's been making her sick, and he assured us that the restaurant would do everything it could to accommodate her. We went in and both tried new things. Neither was actually bad, but we will probably not have them again. Next time, Lisa is apt to try some of their non-stewed seafood, and I'll probably go back to the pan roast. But we continued to be flattered by the attention of William, who says we're among his favorite regular customers.

As dinner was ending, we flagged down one of the restaurant managers and told her how nice William has been, tonight and many times in the past. She told us that he'd just been named Employee of the Month, and we're not surprised. For the next month, his picture will periodically flash down from the big screen that fronts onto I-80. We also learned that he's being promoted to their steak house, which is actually the only restaurant there that we've never tried. Guess we'll have to give it a go sometime.

In the 9 PM drawing, all five names drawn for $1k showed up, after which it was time for the Big Bucks. They ended up having to draw four times before they hit a name of someone who was present and won the money. I came closer than ever this time, but won nothing. I saw my name flash by three different times during the evening, and for one of the $1k draws, they missed me by only five names (out of a couple of thousand in the draw). Oh, well, we had a good meal anyway, and Lisa came out money ahead on slot machines, so it was a pretty good night.

We hadn't actually planned on going out for Christmas, but on the spur of the moment, we drove in to Sparks and had a Christmas Buffet at Orozko at the Nugget. This was an excellent buffet, including non-alcoholic drinks for $30. The menu probably won't be still up there very long, but it included Seafood Newburg, Grilled Pancetta Wrapped Salmon Medallions with Sweet Yellow Curry Sauce, Grilled Pork Medallions with Wild Mushroom Sauce, and (not listed on the published menu) roast lamb on the carving station. (Orozko being a Basque-influenced restaurant, you'd expect it to have lamb, and theirs was quite good, not needing any condiments.)

There was so much good stuff that we didn't have the capacity to try it all, and we deliberately were trying to take small portions of everything. The desserts were also quite good. I felt a little bad about having the pumpkin cheesecake and also a slice of the chocolate cake, but we did later walk several laps around the casino, also making a circuit of the basement and ballroom levels, and a blood sugar check two hours later showed me as normal, so I guess it wasn't too bad.

There had been no wait to get into Orozko, although we did have to check it out carefully, because they had loud music playing in the bar/waiting area, and Lisa needed to make sure that there was seating available in the back where the music wasn't so obnoxious. It was still intrusive in the buffet, but at least at our table we weren't being bothered by music so loud it interferes with thinking.

The Nugget's general buffet, the Rotisserie, had a special Christmas menu as well, and was $7 less. The queue for that was at least twenty people deep, and got longer all evening. I never would have waited through that queue; moreover, I think Orozko's food selection was better than the main buffet. I wonder how many people queuing there realized that they could get a better selection with no wait for only $7 more just by walking to the other end of the casino?

After dinner, we played a little bit of slots, and we had minor luck, winning about enough to pay for the tip on dinner and to do laundry tomorrow, which is where the title of this post comes from. We then went to play a little pinball, but to our disgust, all of the pinball machines are broken in one way or another that wasn't obvious until we'd already put our money into them. We then headed home to Fernley after having had a generally pleasant evening.
