I do not remember when I bought my current electric razor, but the blades have gotten so dull that they won't clear my face. So I bought some replacement blades and installed them today. A previous razor model had a timer built in so that it would start flashing when enough time had gone by, but this model does not appear to have that warning light. So I'm going to have to make a note to replace the blades again a year from now.
The Unkindest Cut
Oct. 16th, 2024 11:22 amMy last remaining working electric razor is starting to misbehave. I don't seem to be able to replace the body of the razor (and it appears that Norelco no longer makes models for which the spare blades I have will work), so I went to Walgreens and bought a blade razor as a temporary expedient.
After shaving once, I remembered why I switched to electric. And while I'm sure I have a styptic pencil somewhere, I have no idea where it is. My face is quite smooth right now, but it's also a mass of micro-cuts. I have coarse facial hair but fair, thin skin. Ouch.
I bit the bullet and bought a new electric razor. I'll deal with buying replacement cutting heads for it a year from now.

Close Shave
Sep. 18th, 2024 08:28 amOn the final day I was on the road (the morning after arriving at Reno), my electric razor went dead while I was in the shower shaving. Now this has happened a few times before when I didn't notice the low battery warning on the previous day, and I was about to go home anyway, so I didn't worry about it. After I got home, I put the battery on to charge. I have two identical electric razors, one of which I had left at home. When I'm at home, I normally alternate between the two of them.
Yesterday, the second razor's low-battery warning light came on, so I put it on to charge and checked the first one (the one that had traveled with me), and discovered that despite having gone through a full charge cycle, it wouldn't run. I put it through the charge cycle again just to be sure, and it still won't run.
This probably means that the battery has worn out, and as far as I know, you can't replace the battery in this model. It has a fixed lifespan, and after that, it's shot. This is unfortunate and IMO wasteful, particularly because replacement blades are not always part-compatible with new razors, even from the same manufacturer, in this case Norelco.
I found a new razor (open box) online and ordered it, but it's clear that there aren't many of that model still out there. So in a few years, I'll have to switch to a new model. I don't like doing that; once I get used to something, I usually prefer to keep using it if I can.
It's lucky that the old razor conked out at the end of the trip. I could have gotten by with a blade razor (I carry one as a backup), but I don't like doing so because I have fairly sensitive skin and get cut easily.

Absent Minded
Oct. 11th, 2022 05:33 pmI use a rechargeable wet/dry electric razor, and it goes about about a week before charging. Yesterday, it displayed the warning light showing that was almost out of charge. Per my usual routine, I cleaned it that afternoon. This morning, while I was shaving I realized (when the warning light came on) that I'd forgotten to recharge it! Maybe it's just as well that we did not go to Sparks yesterday after all, as Lisa was unable to sleep last night and therefore was in no condition to go to town today. We'll try again tomorrow.
