Yesterday's dentist appointment was not bad by itself. (The hygienist complemented me about how good a job I'm doing on keeping my teeth cleaned.) However the X-rays combined with how I still have temperature sensitivity on the lower right tooth that they re-capped last year, led the dentist to refer me to an endodontist for further evaluation. There is a dark spot under the root that may be an infection. If so, I'll need a root canal.

This afternoon, after returning from an unrelated medical appointment, I got a call from the endodontist's office. Astonishingly, they can see me on Thursday afternoon. They'll scan the tooth with their equipment, and if I need the root canal, they can do it that afternoon. They say that they can do the procedure in less than an hour, which would be amazing if it works. I wasn't keeping track, but the last root canal I had, years ago, seemed to take hours, and it's the keeping your mouth cranked open for such a long time that makes the procedure such a pain, literally.

Crown Me

Today I went to the dentist to have the two replacement gold crowns fitted. When I was there two weeks ago for the removal of the second crown, I forgot to ask for them to give me the crown, and when I asked about it, they said they didn't have it. I wonder if they actually discard old gold dental work or just set it aside for a party fund or something like that.

Fitting the upper right replacement crown went smoothly. This is the tooth on which I had a root canal many years ago. The lower right tooth, which is still "live," was much more difficult, and I had to ask them to anesthetize it before they cleaned the tooth and fitted the permanent crown.

After the appointment, I went to Reno Gold Exchange to see what I could get for the crown that I did salvage.

That lower right tooth is still very temperature sensitive, and my jaw does still hurt a bit, although not as much as it did when I had the temporary crowns in place. The dentist said to give it a couple of days and if it hasn't "calmed down" to give them a call and they'll have another look at it.

That money for the crown is "found money" of a sort, and I'm considering if perhaps I should use it to place a bet on the San Francisco 49ers to win the Super Bowl. The last odds I heard for the 49ers to win were +175, meaning that my $50 bet would win $137.50 if they take the trophy.

I spent much of today helping move more stuff out of the RetroDome Theatre and take it over to the warehouse where they are storing things until they get a new home. This was a great deal of work, and I said I was glad I don't do it as my Day Jobbe, but I was happy again to help. I snapped a few photos along the way, and if any of them turn out, I'll post them later.

I couldn't stay until The Bitter End because I had a ticket to the SAP Open tonight, and, covered with drywall dust and dirt and what-have-you, I needed to get back the apartment and shower and change before catching light rail downtown. I got to see a very entertaining exhibition match about which I hope to have enough energy to write tomorrow. In the meanwhile, I'm just glad that for the first time in over a week, I don't have to get up at 6 AM or earlier.

In less good news, while i was walking home from the light rail station, idly chewing a food bar, I forgot that I had a temporary crown on the right side of my mouth and managed to break it. I didn't swallow it, but the crown popped off. I cleaned off the largest piece and carefully put it back into place, but now I have to make due until Monday morning, when I hope that my dentist isn't taking President's Day off.
