This morning at Westercon, I moderated the "Fannish Inquisition," where bids for future Westercons, the seated Westercon, seated Worldcons, and bids for future Worldcons made presentations and took questions. We had to squeeze a little bit for time (it's probably better to do it as two separate panels), but we got through everyone who was there. Lisa recorded everything, but we do not expect to get it uploaded until we get home due to the other things we have to do here and due to only standard (slower) internet connections being included in the room rate.

San Jose in 2018 Launch at Westercon
Along with the known bids, the San Jose in 2018 Worldcon Bid made what could be considered its official hard launch (as opposed to the "soft launch" things done in the past few weeks) with bid chair Andy Trembley ([livejournal.com profile] bovil) officially announcing that yes, SFSFC (the people behind the past two Bay Area Worldcons, including the one I co-chaired, ConJosé) is bidding to host the 2018 Worldcon in San José. (And yes, I'm part of the bid as a director of SFSFC. I've already asked if I can chair the Business Meeting if we win.) SJ2018 will be holding a bid party Saturday night of Westercon and will have a table (but not a party) at NASFiC in a couple of weeks.

We spent the afternoon after the Fannish Inquisition doing our own things. I had several smoffish discussions with various people, while Lisa took Scott Sanford (who was able to come to Westercon as a last-minute helper for dealer AmyCat) to lunch. We didn't see any other programming, but I observed that the halls were very quiet between program changeover times, so a pretty high percentage of the members must have been interested in the program.

OOOOH, I hope you win! ConJose was my first WorldCon and I was blown away by how awesome it was. I've attended every US worldcon since. You did a fabulous job on ConJose.

Thank you! I hope you'll be able to pre-support us to help the bid promote itself, and that once the 2016 Worldcon site is selected, you will be able to join as at least a supporting members so that you're eligible to vote for San Jose when the election happens two years from now.
