Wikipedia Wierdness

A post on the SMOFS e-mail list overnight pointed out that Wikipedia page about Westercon has been flagged as "This article does not cite any references or sources." But the page, while not particularly comprehensive, does in fact cite references to Westercon's official web site and to the sites of the two currently seated Westercons. I would think those are "primary sources."

I'd just take the flag off myself, but I don't want to start a wiki war. I have commented on the article's discussion page that this doesn't seem right to me.

Only 350 Days Until Marcon 43

Marcon has revamped their web site for next year's convention, where I will be Fan Guest of Honor. The convention is in Columbus, Ohio, at the Hyatt Regency Hotel, May 23-25, 2008.

I only wish that so many of the people who have done so much to make me look good could also make the trip, but most of them will probably be at BayCon that weekend.

Westercon Opening Ceremonies

If you're coming to Westercon, please make sure you set aside time to attend the convention's Opening Ceremonies. I don't think I can say exactly why just yet, but I'm a part of it, and I think it will be very funny if we can pull it off as scripted.

I know I'm being mysterious, but I need to find out whether The Management wants us to tell people what's in store or not.

Update, 23:59: The convention schedule continues to be in flux, and they've decided not to put the thing that me and johnnyeponymous are planning to do until some time later -- possibly (but this is subject to change!) as part of the Meet the Guests Reception.

Recreational Parliamentary Procedure

Thanks to Lisa having recorded portions of the BASFA meeting at BayCon, you can now see how we implement our version of Recreational Parliamentary Procedure in the form of our selection of the Rumor of the Week, which is a good example of the standard procedure of "filling blanks" and also of BASFA's decidedly non-standard "Chicago-Style" voting. We join the meeting in progress as the Acting Secretary (me) is writing down the most-recent suggestion to fill the blank in the implied motion that "BASFA's rumor of the week for meeting 878 shall be '_______'." The suggestion had been "It takes three ribbons to get to the Tootsie Roll center of a Tootsie Pop," and the assembled members were reacting to it as I wrote it down....
