Nap

It's a lovely spring day outside. I should get out and get a walk. But after having spent the afternoon packing stuff into cases and bags and boxes, I feel more like taking a nap.

De-cluttering was supposed to include taking two defective pieces of computer hardware -- a printer and monitor that don't work anymore -- to an e-recycling event going on at the nearby junior high school. But when I got there, I discovered that I had the date wrong and that it is next weekend.

I vaguely had an idea of getting another van-load of boxes packed and going to Yuba City this weekend, but it's not going to happen. What I need to do at least is to get the boxes I brought with me last time packed into non-crushed boxes, of which I now have a whole lot, because they were discarding old documents at work and let me have the document boxes.

I am considering packing as much as I can into the van while still leaving room for my luggage, computers, and other stuff going to Oregon, and making my trip north (leaving the 28th) by way of Yuba City, allowing me to stop by the storage locker on the way. One possible way of doing this would be to go up to YC the night before and work from the hotel room in the morning, then go to the locker and store stuff, then stop by Sutter before heading off to Yreka, where I have a prepaid reservation. If it turned out that I needed to work more in the afternoon than I expected, I could go to Starbucks and get online there as well.

This evening, after posting the Nebula Awards results on SF AwardsWatch, I started seriously working through the boxes of stuff I brought down from Yuba City. It turns out that at least two-thirds or more of it are papers I do not need or want to keep anymore, and I manged to throw about six boxes (each the size of a case of copy paper or larger) into the recycle bin. Some stuff I'll keep, and I'm packing them into new boxes. Some stuff will go to BASFA for auction, and others to good homes where I know they'll get used.

Along the way, I found an old $100 US Savings Bond issued in 1992 when I still worked for Blue Shield of California. That cost $50 at the time it was issued, is currently worth $129, and continues to accrue about 5.33% interest until 2022. Nice to find that. It goes into the fire safe.

Among the odd things that turned up: a copy of the installation disks for Macintosh System 7, and a copy of Microsoft Access Version 1.0.
