What a Difference a Week Makes

Things have changed quite a bit in a mere six days days.



There's one bird huddled in the feeder chowing down in this picture. You can see that suddenly the East Lot has sprouted a bunch of green.



Here's approximately the same view on April 3, six days ago.

I think that we might have finally seen the last snow of the season. The ten-day weather forecast doesn't even have a significant change of rain. We haven't needed the fireplace for the past few days. I even turned the electric heater off for much of yesterday and today, only turning it on overnight. I guess all of the snow and rain put enough water into the ground that as soon as the sun showed up, the plants started going into overtime to take advantage of the short desert spring. That would explain why I've started sneezing, I think.

So do you own all the way to that street now? Or is there another lot past yours?

Yes we own everything up to the street you see that separates us from the house on the other side of it. The East Lot is approximately twice the size of the lot on which our house sits.

Merging that lot to our lot would be expensive and difficult, and also might complicate title matters, given that the house lot is 100% paid off while we have a mortgage on the East Lot, so we're leaving things alone. We don't have a lot of plans for the lot other than to keep it from being developed. We might put a fence on two sides of it to prevent cut-through traffic. We're also considering putting a storage container on the lot, which would allow us to close the three storage lockers on which I've been paying rent for years.

Oh, I absolutely wouldn't merge the lots either. The only thing I might consider doing from that standpoint is moving the lines a little, tearing a strip off the lot directly adjacent and adding it onto your house's lot just in case you need to sell one or both later but keep the house.

(And then maybe resize the other two so they're even for better later resale value. But as you note, that shit ain't free.)
