kevin_standlee: Fernley House and the East Lot covered with about 10 cm of accumulated snow (Snow Day 2)

As predicted, we got snow here in Fernley, in two waves: one on Saturday and one on Sunday. Neither were very large, especially compared to the hammering that they got in the Sierra Nevada.

Saturday Morning Snow

The overnight accumulation on our front porch was about 5 cm (2 in). Up in the mountains they were getting 10-30x more than that, with even more at the highest elevations.

I had some work to do once the snow stopped falling.

As the snow stopped, the sun peeked out from behind the cloud. I'm very fond of how things look here under these conditions.

Reverse Angle

I walked to the Wigwam Restaurant and got breakfast. On my way back, I took this picture looking across the West Lot. Yes, they've parked a fire truck there. I still have no idea what their long term plans are. I hope we'll be able to access the upper roof from their lot, because there is not much room between the west side of the house and the fence.

Here's a sort of panorama across the East Lot to the House.

Clearing Up

3 cm of snow isn't that difficult to clear, and I swept the sidewalk and porch after breakfast.

It started to warm up and most of the snow melted. Keeping the sidewalk clear helps, as the sun can warm it up and make it resist icing up. Indeed, it got clear enough that I popped out to get the mail, reserve another pallet of Press-to-Logs from Big R, and buy some perishables while the weather was clear.

Next Wave

The clear spell didn't last long, though, and it started to snow again as I headed home.

Sunday Morning Snow

By Sunday morning, we had a new accumulation of about 8 cm (3 in). This was very dry, powdery snow, and was very easy to sweep. I didn't even have to use the snow shovel, as the brooms were sufficient.

Aside from the brief trip to the shops and walking over to the Wigwam, I stayed home this weekend, kept the fireplace well stoked, and otherwise didn't do very much. Given how stressed I've been for the past few weeks, not having a lot to do was a good thing.
