Yesterday, after getting propane from Hanneman Service, we worked on swapping the repaired tire back into place on the Astro. We also discovered that the spare tire was very low on air. The tire says it should be 44 psi, but it registered less than 20 when we tested it. Hanneman Service used to have an air station, but too many people were leaving the valve on the ground and then driving over it, and they got tired of replacing it, so we had to go over to Pilot and pay $2.50. We should also have remembered to check at Big O Tires, where they do have free air, but I was so worried about missing the opening hours and Roseville that I forgot to do it.

Anyway, the tires are now all correctly pressurized and the spare is cranked back up into its space underneath the van, so all is well again.

A lot of gas stations around here have air pumps, but most of them are out of order at least half the time if they work at all.

Yeah, þe only place around here þat has free air pumps anymore is Quik Trip. þey actually do work much of þe time. þough when a valve does get damaged, it can take awhile for þem to get it fixed.

I'm seeing a weird glyph for al the "th"s in your posting there: þ. I recognise this as an old glyph for "th", but it's a bit weird to see it appear in a posting that isn't transcribing an old document. Is this something from your end or a weird DW fail (a while back it was refusing to render one letter of the alphabet for me in another user's posts. That one fixed itself the following day.

Definitely worth, if you can find somewhere with a free and usually available air supply, making it a regular monthly or so thing to check the pressure in your tyres, including the spare, and topping them off if necessary. No good having a spare if it's flat (even if not punctured).

I no longer use free air, because the valves are so often broken. I also find that even every three months is too often to actually need it.
