Snow Crash

Despite my having rekindled the fireplace last night, it was still cold this morning (around 15°C), and with Kayla having run me off my feet over the past few days, I had to call an audible and take an extra day of time off to get more sleep. Instead of my usual 4:30 AM wake-up call, I slept until about 10:30 AM.



By the time I bestirred myself from the house, the tiny bit of snow that fell locally last night had melted. However, storms are still moving through the area, dropping snow on the Pah Rah and Virginia mountains between Fernley and Reno/Sparks.

I collected mail from the post office (I had a call slip for an oversize item) and bought a small amount of groceries. I also had breakfast at the Black Bear Diner (for a bit of a change). I spent some time today doing catch-up like entering last week's paycheck into Quicken, but there is a whole lot more to do, complicated by having to work in two different currencies. I'll get it done; it just will take a couple of days, and my mind is not working at 100% right now.

I had to look up your phrase "call an audible" there. Not well known outside the US, and possibly outside US sports fans.

I had to look it up, too, and I'm American. I'm not a big football fan. It's always fun to learn new idioms, though.

Sorry; while I never played gridiron, I was the statistician for my high school football team, so it's something I absorbed from a young age.

(And Kayla was a powder puff cheerleader, although she hadn't found her name yet. One of these days, I might manage to find one of the photos.)

My slightly younger cousin, who hangs out with even younger friends, knew the phrase right away. I was one of the Lucky 10,000 today!
