It's repeating a costume used before, but I have it on hand and it still fits, so I'm in my WSFS uniform and will be heading to the office in a few minutes. Happy Halloween!
I don't think civilian lines have a rank of "Admiral." Possibly "Commodore," for which I reckon I'd only need a different set of shoulder-boards. However [within the Interaction storyline], while the Board of Inqury held at CascadiaCon cleared me of all wrongdoing, I've never been able to find a billet in any WSFS ship of significance, so the chances of being promoted are slim.
Hm, thinking about it more, as a director of Anticipation's parent non-profit, a rank of "Commodore" within the "White Star" line might actually be appropriate. Have to think about that some.
And in my case, the dress uniform would still be white and would probably resemble a tuxedo. (I considered it for Interaction, given the need for me to appear at formal occassions like the Hugo Awards, but abandoned the idea due to the cost.) There's no non-white uniform for civilian cruiseliners of which I'm aware.
Good point. Thus it comes down to corporate style, since the White Star Federated Spacelines are a private operation, not a government one. This is an element of the mythos we never worked out, but we were content to parallel the present-day cruise ship style because we knew it's what most people would recognize.
Don't feel like you're alone -- I'm wearing the old Romulan-cum-Vampire piece (trade ears for teeth and VoilĂ !). It's old to us, but it's new to the folks we share it with ;>.
Well, yes, but I've worn this uniform to work before, so it's a repeat there as well.
Now, if I were ever to shed enough weight -- nearly 100 pounds! -- to get back to what I weighed in the early 1990s, I could dig out some costumes that would really shock people.
I remember at least one from Cascadia -- and I'm with you -- If i could shed enough weight, there's some costumes that could trot back out and surprise the hell out of folks (not to the extent that you could, mind you, but it's harder from my side of the fence ;>).
It's the pink one from CascadiaCon that I'm thinking of. I had it dry cleaned and bagged after I last wore it -- it was a custom-fitted, well-made outfit, not some cheap wear-once-and-destroy costume from a Spirit store -- and I'd love a chance to wear it again. People who have only known me in the past decade would be, er, surprised.
That's the one I was thinking of too (it was quite well put together) -- and yes, I expect they would be ;>.
Hell, I wore makeup today (the vamp requires at least a little ;>) and got shocked reaction from this group. I've grown fairly granola as my weight has increased over the years...
Stumbled onto a couple of older incarnations of this Rom-Vamp piece today -- would love to get back into those... job changing soon and I'll be near my new gym (and an hour's less round trip on the commute) -- hmmmmm...
